Postcard #21 • Baile Calavera

(MEXICO)- From the Maya & Aztec, throught gastronomy to the religious celebrations, there is no doubt that Mexico has the richest and varied culture throughtout The Americas. The Mexican culture fascinates me, that's why this postcard has become my favorite one so far. It was sent by Lando, from the Distrito Federal, Mexico, and it shows these beautiful and colorful mexicans crafts representing "La Calavera Catrina" (dapper skeleton). They come from an original draw named "La Catrina o Calavera Garbancera" by Jose Guadalupe Posada, which later became popular thanks to the paint "Sueño de una tarde dominical en la Alameda Central" (Dream of a Sunday Afternoon at the Alameda Park) by Diego Rivera. The Catrinas are an important symbol in Mexico's Day of the Dead holiday along with the Santa Muerte (Lady of the Holy Death). The postcard is postmarked and has three stamps, one of them commemorating the mexican tradition of the Day of the Dead.

(US VIRGIN ISLANDS)- Magens Bay Beach in St. Thomas, US Virgin Island, is the most famous and most visited beach in St. Thomas. Magens Bay has the magical white sand and clear water, along with a radiant blue sky and a shiny sun, very typical paradisiac scenario of Caribbean beaches. Postcard is postmarked and stamped with United States of America stamps. US Virgin Islands does not issued their own postal stamps since it is USA territory.

Postcards #19 • USSR Postcards

(UKRAINE)- One of the best envelops I've received was sent by Dasha from Ukraine. Just few days ago we agreed to swap some postcards. She had to send me four postcards related to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). To my surprise Dasha not only sent four, but seven wonderful postcards not only related to the USSR, but also originally printed at the time. Pure treasures. More than greatful!

Postcard #18 • Yugoslavia Map

(SERBIA)- For some unknow reason, I'm fascinated about the history of Yugoslavia and all the nations that once formed that union. The true is that, receiving this colorfull map of Yugoslavia brings me lot of feelings. This map shows the geographic territory of Yugoslavia and the nowdays division, and the Yugoslavia Flag that somehow is still being sort of the same (lightly modified) for the Former Yugoslavia countries. Yugoslavia was an european Federate State formed by Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Slovenia and Montenegro; after different kinds of conflicts in 1980, Yugoslavia broke up took place country by country in 1991. In year 2006, Montenegro separated from Serbia; they were the last two Yugoslavian countries that remained together until that year. Kosovo is also an indepent autonomous country nowdays, but holding some conflicts since just 103 United Nations states members have recognized then as independent. The postcard is postmarked and it has two Serbian stamps. Thanks to Ana from Serbia and Dasha from Ukraine for sending this postcard to me!

Postcard #17 • Pitcairn Island

(PITCAIRN ISLAND)- The Pitcairn Island is a volcanic island located in the Pacific. It's one of the most remote inhabited places in the world, the last overseas territory of the United Kingdom. There are just 56 people living in the island as of today, so you can imagine how hard is to get a postcard from that place; but actually the major source of revenue of Pitcairn people comes from the sales of postage and coins to collectors from all over the world. Thanks to postcrosser Tommy, who surprised me by getting this postcard sent to me from Pitcairn Island. The postcard is postmarked and has two stamps showing a beautiful sunset. It just travelled 26 days from Pitcairn Island to Santo Domingo.

Postcard #16 • The Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque

(BRUNEI)- The Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque is an Islamic mosque located in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of the Sultanate of Brunei Darussalam. Considered as one of the most beautiful mosques in the Asia Pacific, it is a place of worship for the Muslim community, a major landmark and a tourist attraction of Brunei. As you can see and as Ara says, the dome of this mosque is made of pure gold!!! It never ceases to amaze me how some Arabs countries tend to build, where luxury, grandeur and opulence seems to be a must be. Postcard is postmarked and has two stamps, with, of course, the sultan.

There, hidden in the hills there is the Ghandruk Village, a town famous for its trekking facilities and the amazing view to the mountains Annapurna (the nepali part of the Himalaya) including the Machapuchare mount (the snowy peak in the right). My First Penpal Letter

Back in January I just decide to get a penpal, but instead of one, I ended up with three, all girls living in Europe. This is the first letter I received. It's from my penpal in Germany. I sent her the first letter when we agree to become penpals, and this is her reply. She tell me so many things about her, and wow, she's just impressive, I'm happy to be her penpal. Besides the letter, she attached a german teabag that I already drank (it was so soft and delicious), 1 euro coin (yes! now I can cover the expenses to reply her letter... j/k) and a photo of her and her boyfriend, when they were in Russia back in May 2013, enjoying a nice vacations. Now I have much to write about!  What should I attach for her in the letter?

Postcard #12 • Faroe Islands

(FAROE ISLANDS)-  Faroe Islands is an archipielago and autonomus country within the Kingdom of Denmark, located in between the Norwegian Sea and North Atlantic Ocean. The closest countries are Norway, Scotland and Iceland. There are just about 50,000 people living there, who speaks their own language, the Faroese. It is hard to find swappers/postcrossers from that far away country, but my friend Som, from India, who is a philatelic (stamps collector), he bought some stuff from Faroe Island Postal Service and also paid a postcard and asked them to send it to me and voilá. This postcard shows a rockhill within the shore. It is postmarked and has two beautiful and lovely stamps displaying silvester cats from Faroe Island... (Kitty lover here!).    Thank you very much Som!

¡Muchas gracias Som!

PS: Yo ahí con una yagua = ¡Felicidad!

Postcard #11 • Klompen: Wooden Clogs

(THE NETHERLANDS)- It was a beautiful surprise to receive a colorful postcard from The Netherlands showing the typical wooden clogs of Holland named "komplen". Katka says that time ago this type of clogs were used by hardworking people and also farmers, but nowdays is only used by tourists (I guess while buying them)... Anyways, as Katka wrote, using wooden clogs would be definitely very uncomfortable.  Postcard is postmarked and has a stamp for international delivery.
